Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32KOs) will have the best year of his career in 2016, according to his father - the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.

According to Sr., Julio wants to return to the training arms of Freddie Roach, who previously trained the Mexican star for several years.

After Chavez Jr. parted with longtime promoter Top Rank earlier this year, he broke away from Roach and hired Joe Goossen. That relationship lasted one fight and then he hired Robert Garcia.

The World Boxing Council has approved a fight between Chavez Jr. and WBC super middleweight champion Badou Jack. To go into a fight like that, Chavez Sr. believes his son needs Roach at his side and they already spoke with manager/adviser Al Haymon about the move.

"I think [super middleweight] is the right weight for my son for his stature. It is the ideal weight, where Julio can develop his potential and skills. It's what we're trying to do. I think next year will be the best year in his career," Chavez Sr. said

Julio is still recovering from a hand injury, but should be ready to fight by February or March.

"Badou Jack is a tall fighter, who stands right in the middle of the ring and fights. I think that works to the style of Julio, who can attack him, push him, take him to the ropes, and that's where Julio has the edge - but he needs to be prepared," Chavez Jr. said.

"[Julio] feels that he needs to return with Freddie Roach, who gives him the potential, speed, and gives him that little extra. Trainer Robert Garcia is good but he lacks a little [for what is needed for] Julio."
