Carlos Adames: record, next fight and profile →

At 36, Terrell Gausha may have only one more shot at a world title. But for now, Saturday – and what Gausha says was a fated matchup with middleweight titleholder Carlos Adames – is all that matters.

Carlos Adames’ only slip in the ring was against a crafty boxer, so as he heads to his first WBC middleweight title defense Saturday night, he embraces the assignment of another complex challenge

Prenice Brewer and Terrell Gausha were part of the "Fab Five"— not the famous Michigan college basketball team and most certainly not The Beatles — but a standout amateur boxing program put together by Renard Safo in Cleveland, Ohio. The group included Brewer, Gausha, Willie Nelson, Yuandale Evans, and Brett Simmons.

For Carlos Adames, nothing has changed except the belt around his waist.

Terrell Gausha, a 2012 U.S. Olympian, is looking to spoil the recent success of Carlos Adames, who was elevated from WBC interim champion to full titleholder after Jermall Charlo had another run-in with the law.

After receiving the gift of being elevated to outright WBC middleweight titleholder on his birthday, Carlos Adames will defend his belt against Terrell Gausha at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on June 15.
