Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) and his management are very eager to complete a deal to challenge WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs) on May 2nd. The Mexico vs. Puerto Rico battle would be one of the biggest matches in the rivalry in several years. The two sides have continued to negotiate and a deal is expected as early as next week.

"We want it for the title that Miguel Cotto has. That's what we are looking for, to fight for his title," said Jose" Chepo "Reynoso, manager of Canelo. "It's one of the most anticipated fights out there. The media has shown their interest for a long time. I think it would be a very interesting fight based on the aspects of the two fighters. Cotto is a fighter of experience, with great prestige; while Saul is on track to [be the best] and is still gaining experience. It would be one of those classic fights, because both are fighters who can punch. It would be very interesting and hopefully it will materialize."
