WBC, WBA middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez is currently training hard for his upcoming unification fight against IBF champion Daniel Jacobs, which is scheduled for May 4th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Should he defeat Jacobs and unify three of the major belts at 160, he doesn't rule out the possibility of going hunting for the WBO world title, which is currently held by Demetrius Andrade. He wants to become the first Mexican fighter to unify an entire weight division with all four belts.

Both Canelo and Andrade are aligned with the streaming service DAZN.

After capturing world titles at junior middleweight, middleweight and super middleweight - Canelo does not rule out the possibility of hunting down a world title at light heavyweight in the future.

And one fight that he would be open to, is a clash with WBO world champion Sergey Kovalev.

Canelo does not disclose whether or not a potential fight at light heavyweight would involve a catch-weight or a rehydration clause - and any scenario to make a fight at 175 would not happen until 2020 or even later.

"We do not rule out the possibility (of fighting at 175 pounds)," said Canelo to ESPN Deportes.

"At this moment we have other things in mind, but the possibility exists. It's a huge challenge, but it's the type of things that I like, I know (Sergey) Kovalev since I was 20 years old, and why not, we could make a fight between us and I like those challenges, there is the possibility of making that fight."

Currently, the 175-pound champions are Oleksandr Gvozdyk for the WBC, Kovalev for the WBO, Dmitry Bivol for the WBA and Artur Beterbiev for the IBF.

Being unified at middleweight is by far the first objective.

"That is what we intend to do this year, if everything is settled, if everything goes well in May, that is what we intend to do this year, to be champion of the four organizations," Canelo said.

"We are on that path, everything can change, first it is (Jacobs) and then September. We are very happy and focused on this fight on May 4, it is a complicated fight, but it is the fight we want and hopefully everything goes how we want."
