Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is picking Floyd Mayweather Jr. to win a twelve round decision in his upcoming mega-fight against Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Canelo faced Mayweather in 2013 at a catch-weight of 152-pounds. Mayweather easily won a twelve round decision over the larger man. Canelo's last two fights, and his upcoming bout with James Kirkland on May 9th, are 155-pound bouts. The young Mexican fighter has complained in some interviews that he was a little drained for the fight.
Canelo says the defense and movement of Mayweather will create a lot of problems for Pacquiao in the contest.
"It's a fight that everyone wants to see. Pacquiao is a great fighter, one who has fought the best, but I honestly think Mayweather will win by decision. But hey, this is boxing and anything can happen," Canelo told ESPN Deportes.
"The hardest thing is that Floyd is very smart, risks nothing in a fight. He is always on the defensive, and that makes it even more complicated and for that reason I say that Pacquiao will have seen that hinders fighters, so that part will be the hardest to have to deal with. It could be a boring fight for the same reasons, because Mayweather does not expose anything, but I know that Pacquiao will come with everything and in this sport anything can happen."
