The biggest Cinco De Mayo celebration in Canada will take place at REBEL Entertainment Complex, as Lee Baxter Promotions stages a night of boxing action on May 5 headlined by rising featherweight contender Bryan Acosta.

Acosta (16-0, 5 KOs) signed with Lee Baxter Promotions in February 2022, making his Canadian debut on the undercard of Samuel Vargas vs Przemyslaw Runowski in March. Acosta arguably stole the show against fellow Mexican slugger Lamberto Macias (16-4-1 12 KO’s) at the REBEL Entertainment Complex, now he’s back in the very same venue as the headliner. The 23-year-old showcased his clean counterpunching, slick defense, and love of in-the-pocket brawling, quickly making him a fan favorite. With Lee Baxter Promotions and trainer Jose Alfredo Caballero, who also trains the WBA Super Flyweight Champion Juan Francisco Estrada, Acosta feels he has the team behind him to propel him to the top of the division.

“Toronto, Canada welcomed me in March like I was at home, I’m excited to make a statement performance on May 5th for Cinco de Mayo, I plan to make all the champions at featherweight find out who I am.”

Cinco de Mayo is a part of Mexican culture and is celebrated in honor of the Mexican military conquering the French Empire, on May 5, 1862. Since the 2000s, the celebration has also become a popular date for boxing events with many classic fights happening during the celebration.

“It became very apparent after Bryan’s performance last time out that he’s a headline fighter,” said Baxter. “He’s still learning, he’s still growing, but fights against guys like Leo Santa Cruz, Emanuel Navarette, Mauricio Lara, Rey Vargas, those are our goals in the not-too-distant future. And as he continues building his fanbase here in Canada, our goal would be to make one of those fights happen right here in Toronto.”
