Brandon Figueroa couldn’t ask for more than what’s come of his 2019 campaign thus far.

Of course, it won’t prevent him from literally asking for just a little bit more.

The unbeaten interim 122-pound titlist registered his first successful defense, stopping Argentina’s Javier Chacon in four rounds atop a Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on FS1 telecast Saturday evening in Edinburg, Texas. The bout was staged mere miles from Figueroa’s Weslaco hometown, marking his third fight of the year and all with title implications at stake.

“I definitely want to squeeze in one more fight before the end of the year,” Figueroa (20-0, 15KOs) told BoxingScene.com of his hopes to extend his breakout campaign beyond Saturday’s homecoming. “We’re always in the gym, maintaining my body and condition. We’re always ready to go.”

Figueroa was more than ready on Saturday evening, fighting for the first time at home since his days as a rising prospect. His knockout streak began at home, stopping Victor Proa in the 4th round of an Oct. 2017 bout in nearby Mercedes. He was just 18 at the time and still known simply as the younger brother of Omar Figueroa, then an unbeaten former lightweight titlist.

The unbeaten part has since been violently removed, as Omar was manhandled by Yordenis Ugas this past July in Las Vegas. That leaves the younger Figueroa to carry on the family name, a task he’s willing to carry out against all comers at super bantamweight—and as often as his handlers will allow.

“I’m grateful for the way my career has been handled so far,” notes Figueroa, who turned pro just four years ago. “I knew it was a matter of time to get to this level eventually and I want to keep climbing. I’m enjoying this growth period, coming into my strength.

“The fights I’m winning, I’m knocking out good opposition. These guys aren’t pushovers. Everyone I’ve faced brings something to the table and I expect that for my next fight—which I’ll be ready for as soon as the schedule allows. Hopefully there’s room for me (on the PBC schedule) for one more fight this year.”
