Billy Joe Saunders: record, next fight and profile →
Mark Tibbs feels that his former trainee Billy Joe Saunders left a lot on the table as it relates to the latter’s boxing career. The London-based Tibbs, a former fighter himself, trained the two-division champion Saunders ahead of his super middleweight unification bout against Canelo Alvarez last May, which Alvarez won by 8th round knockout.
Former two division world champion Billy Joe Saunders is not ruling out the possibility of an upset win by Caleb Plant, who faces Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez this weekend.
Billy Joe Saunders has no intention of ceding any ground to rival countryman Chris Eubank Jr. The former super middleweight titleholder recently responded to comments Eubank made regarding the terms for a potential rematch between the two fighters. Eubank made it clear that he thinks he should be the “A-side” in that fight.
Billy Joe Saunders has one foot outside the boxing ring. The two-division titleholder says he would have no qualms hanging up the gloves for good. It’s not hard to see why. Saunders made a career high pay day in his last fight, an eighth-round stoppage loss to Canelo Alvarez in their super middleweight unification title bout last May at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Saunders, of course, did not come out completely unscathed; he wound up with a broken orbital bone in his right eye from the fight and is still waiting for it to completely heal.
As the saying goes, it’s not always about if you win but how you win that matters inside the squared circle. IBF super middleweight titleholder Caleb Plant would probably agree with that dictum as it relates to his forthcoming full unification title bout against boxing kingpin Canelo Alvarez, who owns the WBC/WBO/WBA belts, on Nov. 6 in Las Vegas.
Billy Joe Saunders may not exactly be known for his humility, but the British southpaw apparently has no problem conceding his loss to Canelo Alvarez.
Former two division world champion Billy Joe Saunders, 32-years-old, would consider a rematch with career rival Chris Eubank Jr. - if the money was right. They collided back in 2014, with Saunders winning a close twelve round split decision to hand Eubank his first career defeat.
Middleweight contender Chris Eubank Jr. has made it clear that his domestic rival, former two division champion Billy Joe Saunders, is in no position to make monetary demands. He says Saunders is requesting £5 million for a rematch.
Veteran trainer Virgil Hunter, who guided Andre Ward to unified title runs at super middleweight and light heavyweight, does not see a single fighter in either division that has a concrete shot of beating Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.
The career of Billy Joe Saunders is still up in the air, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn, who checked in with the fighter recently. "I think he’s ‘undecided’ is the best word," Hearn said during an interview with Boxing Social. "I said to him I would love to see him fight again."
