Former champion Andre Berto (30-3, 23KOs) is a few short weeks away from the biggest fight of his professional career. On September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Berto will challenge the pound-for-pound king, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs), for the WBC/WBA welterweight titles. The fight will headline a Showtime Pay-Per-View event.

Berto is a very big underdog in the fight. Nearly everyone is expecting Mayweather to win easily. The oddsmakers are tabbing Mayweather as the betting favorite - by a mile. Some outlets have him listed as low as a 40-1 favorite and others as high as an 80-1 winner.

In his last six fights, Berto has gone 3-3 with a knockout of rugged Josesito Lopez this past June.

Berto is a good boxer, but outboxing Mayweather will be a very tough task - and 46 others have failed in 48 tries.

Outboxing Mayweather is the last thing on Berto's mind.

He believes the last time Mayweather faced a good boxer with a solid combination of speed and power is Zab Judah in 2006, and Mayweather arguably lost the first few rounds of that fight before figuring Judah out.

Berto is going to use his speed to set up very hard power shots with the goal of hopefully stopping Mayweather inside the distance.

"Of course [I can knock him out]. I've got the power that I bring to the table that can [knock him out]. Check my record.  I have the power, I have the speed to get it done. I have the speed to keep up with him. I've got the power to hurt him. It's just about staying consistent and staying focused, believing that you can get it done," Berto told BoxingScene.com.
