Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who co-promotes WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, believes Deontay Wilder has lost his mind after a very controversial Instragram video.
On Saturday, Wilder took to social media to break his silence after being quiet for several months.
Wilder lost his WBC heavyweight title back in February, when he was stopped in seven rounds in his rematch with Tyson Fury at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
In the video posted to Instagram, Wilder accused Fury of loading his gloves for their rematch - and also said Fury manipulated his gloves for the first contest, which took place in December 2018 and ended in a controversial twelve round split draw.
Wilder also accused his former co-trainer, Mark Breland, of spiking his water and working as a double-agent.
Breland felt Wilder was taking too much punishment in the rematch and threw in the towel in the seventh round.
A few weeks ago, BoxingScene.com first reported Wilder's decision to drop Breland from the training team.
"We haven’t heard a lot from Wilder. So he is probably watching television, and all I can say about his Instagram post is that he is mimicking Donald Trump," Arum told IFL TV.
"In other words, likes come up with conspiracy theories. Do anything but put the blame on yourself. For him to castigate Kenny Bayless, the referee, and Mark Breland, his chief cornerman the way he did is disgraceful. Because they acted properly and they saved Wilder’s life from taking any further punishment. When he was completely out and getting thrashed by Tyson Fury."
There was an immediate rematch clause, which Wilder exercised earlier this year.
The third fight was postponed several times due to the coronavirus pandemic.
There appears to be confusion regarding the rematch clause. Fury and his handlers believe the clause expired several weeks ago - so they plan to go in a different direction. And Wilder's handlers believe the clause is still valid.
