Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who promotes three division world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko, believes his boxer will fight is way to a 2022 showdown with IBF, WBC Franchise, WBA, WBO lightweight champion George Kambosos.
Lomachenko previously held those belts, but he lost them by way a twelve round decision to Teofimo Lopez a year ago.
Last month, Lopez suffered a shocking upset decision loss to Kambosos.
The two-time Olympic gold medal winner will return on Saturday night, against former IBF champion Richard Commey at Madison Square Garden in New York City. A big win could see Lomachenko secure a mandatory position in 2022.
Arum explains that Lomachenko will have no problem with traveling over to Australia to face Kambosos on his home soil.
"Loma is No 1 with the WBC and the WBO," Arum told Sky Sports. "I think it will happen. Kambosos will make a voluntary defense then could fight Lomachenko in Australia.
"I have promoted fights in Australia. It's a great place for fights. They have great fans who would welcome Lomachenko. I am optimistic that, at the end of next year, we will have Loma back fighting for the titles."
Back in 2017, Arum's company co-promoted an event in Australia with local promoter Dean Lonergan.
Lonergan's fighter, Jeff Horn, shocked the world in winning a decision over Manny Pacquaio for the WBO welterweight title. A massive crowd of 51,000 were in attendance for that event in Brisbane.
Arum is confident that Lomachenko can beat Kambsos - despite the fact that Kambosos beat the man who beat the man.
"Nobody is making excuses. He had a bad shoulder going into the fight which he didn't know about. He went easy in the first few rounds then started fighting, because he was afraid of his shoulder. I know the doctor who operated on his shoulder," Arum said.
"Teofimo took over the belts but lost weight improperly. He had a lung condition and a hole in his esophagus. Kambosos is decent but nothing spectacular, but he has all the belts."
