Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum says a deal is nearly complete for Devin Haney to defend his undisputed lightweight crown against former three division world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko.

In 2022, Haney unified, and retained, the WBC, WBO, WBA, IBF titles with back to back twelve round decisions over George Kambosos in Australia.

Lomachenko saw action in October, when he won a tough decision over Jamaine Ortiz in Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Arum believes the fight will be announced in the coming weeks.

"That fight is essentially made. We're looking for the site and the date and that'll be announced shortly," Arum told Sky Sports. "I had lunch with Bill Haney, Devin's father and Devin joined us and they're all ready.

"They're lovely people. That fight will happen either before or right after Ramadan. Because Devin is a religious Muslim and so we can't do it during Ramadan but we could do it before or after. So I discussed all of that with the Haneys. But they're on board for the fight."

Lomachenko, a two-time Olympic gold medal winner, has captured world titles at featherweight, super featherweight and lightweight.

He's won three fights in a row since losing an upset twelve round decision to Teofimo Lopez in 2020.

He knocked out Masayoshi Nakatani in nine rounds, and then picked up a dominant decision win over former champion Richard Commey - before the competitive fight with Ortiz.

Haney, once viewed as a big underdog in the contest, is now perceived by many to be the favorite. The unbeaten boxer is not a big puncher, with only 15 of his 29 wins coming inside the distance. His last six victories came by decision.
