Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who promotes WBC, IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev, says the boxer is going to return in the early part of 2020 in a mandatory title defense.

Beterbiev's next fight will be a mandatory defence against undefeated Meng Fanlong of China.

Beterbiev got his signature win on Friday night in Philadephia, with a tenth round stoppage of undefeated Oleksandr Gvozdyk.

The 34-year-old Beterbiev dropped Gvozdyk three times in the tenth before the fight was waved off.

Beterbiev raised his undefeated record to 15-0, with a perfect knockout record of 15.

Gvozdyk started off very well and managed to outbox Beterbiev in the early going, but the pressure of the Russian fighter was too much for him to withstand.

Beterbiev was the slight underdog and he was down on two of the official scorecards when the contest was waved off.

During the tenth, Beterbiev scored the first knockdown with a combination that was followed by a left to the side of the face. It didn't take long before Beterviev dropped him for a second time.

After the second knockdown, Gvozdyk was warned by the referee that another knockdown would force his hand to stop the contest. So it wasn't exactly a surprise that a stoppage was called after Gvozdyk went down for a third time after a few more punches came raining down.
