Former undisputed junior middleweight champion Winky Wright (50-3-1, 25 KOs), tells the Star-Telegram that he still wants a shot at middleweight champion Jermain Taylor. Wright tells the paper that a rematch clause was in the contract, and he would like to hook up with Taylor one more time to settle the score. The two fighters fought to a draw on June 17 in Memphis.
Wright feels that he clearly won the contest and does not blame Taylor for the scorecards of the judges.
"It's always going to be a bitter taste in my mouth, but it's not at Jermain, it's at the judges," Wright said. "Jermain went in, fought, and did what he had to do. But clearly I know I won, and everybody knows I won, but it's not his fault. I have no hostility against him."
Wright said that he would like to have another megafight and continue his career for at least two years. If the Taylor rematch does not come through, Wright is still willing to fight his business partner - Oscar De La Hoya.
The fight with De La Hoya does not have to take place at 160 pounds. Wright is willing to work with De La Hoya and hold the fight at a catch weight. The Golden Boy is not the only fighter, Wright is willing to meet any big name opponent, regardless of size, at a catch weight.
"I'd love to do a catch weight [fight]," he said. "I'd do a catch weight with anyone bigger than me, too. There's no problem."
Wright said that HBO still has a date of December 2 reserved for his ring return.
