WBC junior welterweight champion Junior Witter is not too happy with the choice of opponent for UK-rival Ricky Hatton. Witter told The Daily Star that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will not only beat and probably stop Hatton on Dec. 8 in Las Vegas, he will likely retire him as well.
“It’s just a shame that I’m not going to be the first person to beat Ricky now because I think it is a shutout victory for Mayweather, even a late stoppage," Witter said. “Ricky has got great heart but I don’t see him doing anything and I think he will retire after that fight.
Witter has been chasing a fight with Hatton for years, obsessed with the idea of being the first man to hand "the Hit Man" his first pro defeat. He feels that Hatton has enough money in the bank to avoid a future fight with him.
“If he doesn’t (retire) then a fight against me can be made, but I just think he will have enough money in the bank and he will just want to drink and eat crappy food," Witter said. “It’s frustrating we aren’t fighting but that’s life. You have to be in the right place at the right time, like Amir Khan and Ricky."
