According to Ultimate Fighting Championship boss Dana White, retired former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather is lying about his claim of offering UFC superstar Conor McGregor a guaranteed purse of $15 million to fight in a boxing match.
White, who has McGregor under an exclusive contract, says his offer of $25 million to Mayweather was actually made.
Mayweather, who retired in 2015 with a perfect 49-0 record, told ESPN’s First Take in a recent interview that a McGregor bout was the only thing that could tempt him to end his exile from the ring - but he would require at least $100 million as a guarantee.
“They know what my number is. My number is a guaranteed $100 million,”Mayweather said.
When Mayweather was advised of White's offer - he called the UFC exec a "f***ing clown."
White downplayed Mayweather's belief that he's far more popular than McGregor. And he says there is no way that Mayweather is going to receive $100 million for a McGregor fight.
First of all, Floyd thinks he's so much bigger than Conor - he's wrong," White told TMZ Sports.
"Floyd has gone undefeated for twenty years and I give him all the credit in the world for doing that, but Conor has been around for three to four years and for him to think that he's a much bigger star than Conor isn't true. And I'm not going to pay him way more money than I'm going to pay my guy. We all know $25 million isn't peanuts and so does he."
"He's hanging his watch out the window and his watch is the problem. When you're wearing a watch that's $250,000 dollars, you're going to need $25 million real quick pal. And hey Floyd, taxes are coming up too bud. Floyd said that he made an offer, he never made an offer. It's not true. I made an offer. So if he's serious, there is a real offer. Where do we go from here Floyd?"
