David Carmona and Ricardo Rodriguez are set for their 10-round super flyweight rematch Friday evening at Auditorio Blackberry in Mexico City, Mexico.
Both fighters came in right at the divisional limit of 115 lbs. for their main event, which airs live on Telemundo.
Their first fight kicked off the Boxeo Telemundo 115 Lb. tournament last summer, with Carmona taking a decision and going on to run the tables. The super flyweight contender from Mexico City claimed top honors with a decision win over Daniel Lozano in March, a feat that produced his second shot at a major title.
With a shot at full titlist Naoya Inoue hanging in the balance, Carmona (19-2-5, 8KOs) was held to a 12-round draw versus Warlito Parrenas in their interim title fight in July. Parrenas will face Inoue after Carmona opted to instead return to the Telemundo circuit for a fight that - according to his opponent - serves as unfinished business.
Rodriguez (12-2, 4KOs) didn't let last year's setback discourage his career progress. The 26-year old from Mexico City has since won three straight, all airing live on Telemundo and having taken place in Central Florida.
His most recent win came in July, marching into hostile territory to outpoint local favorite Daniel Lozano in Tampa.
