World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman had recently met, face to face, with WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo at the NABF's recent annual convention at the Caribe Royale hotel in Orlando, Florida.

Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) has been out of the ring for over two years. His last bout took place in June of 2021, when he picked up a twelve round unanimous decision over Juan Macias Montiel.

The long stint of inactivity has been due to injuries and personal issues in Charlo's life.

Despite the numerous calls to strip Charlo for his inactivity, the WBC has stood by his side.

Carlos Adames is currently the WBC's interim-champion at 160-pounds. At some point, a fight between him and Charlo will be ordered to establish a single middleweight beltholder for the sanctioning body.

According to Sulaiman, Charlo is now physically and mentally ready, with a ring return being planned for the very near future.

"Jermall Charlo, the WBC middleweight champion, was present [at the NABF convention] and received everyone’s greetings and support. It was wonderful to see him with his wife, his mother, and his youngest daughter. We talked in depth and we are convinced that he is ready to return to the ring after a long absence due to physical injuries, and suffering from mental health issues and wellness," Sulaiman said.

"The WBC decided long ago to fully support him during this delicate process. An interim championship was ordered to maintain activity in the division and give him sufficient time necessary for his full recovery. Carlos Adames is the WBC interim champion and has defended his title successfully. Charlo is now very close to returning to the ring and continuing his career as an undefeated world champion, admirably representing the WBC."
