According to reports emanating from Japan, the infamous Kameda family have set their sights on WBC super flyweight king Yota Sato, having issued a challenge to the flashy champion.

Their plan is to position Tomoki Kameda (23-0, 15KOs), the youngest of three boxing brothers and currently campaigning at bantamweight, into a ‘world’ title opportunity in the near future, with Sato (25-2-1, 12KOs) being seen as the ideal option.

Sato, who successfully defended his WBC title against mandatory challenger Sylvester Lopez earlier this month, has decided not to get into a war of words with the Kameda’s. Instead, he is preoccupied with “corresponding in a mature way”.

“It is [the] Kameda family’s style to heat up outside the ring, but it’s too much [of a] hassle to deal with,” stated the 28-year old to Japanese news outlet, Nikkan Sports.

When asked about negotiations between both camps, his response was: “the match hasn’t even been decided, and Mr. Kanehira [Sato’s promoter and manager] hasn’t told me anything.”

Due to Sato being one of the lesser known champions in Japan and Tomoki, 21, having the clout of the Kameda name behind him, discussions for a big all-Japan title showdown could prove to be successful.
