Virgil Hunter, trainer of WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward, says 168-pound contender Carl Froch (33-2, 24KOs) is likely going to be too big and strong for WBA/IBO middleweight king Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs).
For the last few weeks, a lot of noise has been made with respect to a potential Froch vs. Golovkin showdown in the UK.
Ward has been mentioned as a potential opponent for both Froch and Golovkin. He returns on June 20th against Paul Smith at a catch-weight of 172-pounds. He may decide to head up to the light heavyweight ranks afterwards.
Froch has been inactive since last May's knockout victory over George Groves before 80,000 fans in Wembley Stadium. He's stated in several interviews that if he decides to continue his career, he would seriously consider Golovkin as a potential opponent.
"I would give Froch a very good chance against [Golovkin]. Not only does Carl take a punch as well or better than anyone but he is likely to be too big and strong for Golovkin," Hunter told Daily Mail.
