According to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald , former flyweight champ Vic Darchinyan (28-1, 22 KOs) is planning to make his super flyweight debut, possibly in October or December, when he challenges for the vacant IBO super flyweight title, possibly at Homebush or Star City Casino in Sydney.
The opponent has not been set, but Darchinyan told the paper that a top-15 Filipino fighter will be on the other side of the ring, possibly Alex Banal or Eden Sonsona.
"I want to fight in Sydney, put a show on for the public in my home town, in front of my home supporters," Darchinyan said. "We could do it at Homebush, the casino, or we have two other options. My US promoter, Gary Shaw, wants to set me up a fight in December, so between October to December is enough time to prepare."
Darchinyan is coming off his first loss as a pro, a fifth round stoppage to Nonito Donaire on July 7 in Connecticut. He wants a rematch with Donaire after two to three more fights.
