Vetyeka is Back in Position To Challenge Abner Mares

South African boxer Simpiwe Vetyeka (23-1, 13KOs) is back in position to challenge for the WBC super bantamweight championship. Vetyeka won a final eliminator last July when he defeated Giovanni Caro by way of twelve round unanimous decision.

Vetyeka had hoped to challenge champion Toshiaki Nishioka, but the Japanese boxer vacated the title. In a surpising move, Vetyeka was overstepped by the WBC, who sanctioned a fight between Abner Mares and Eric Morel for the vacant title. Mares won a twelve round decision.

Vetyeka plans to stay busy by fighting Klaas Mboyane (12-8-2, 7KOs) on June 4th in an eight round bout at the Sandton Convention Centre in Sandton.

After the June bout, he hopes to face Mares in a title fight.
