Hulking WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev is under investigation by the St. Petersburg police for assaulting 61-year-old security guard, Yury Sergeyev.

Sergeyev claims that the seven-foot Valuev assaulted him outside the Spartak Ice Palace in St. Petersburg after the Valuev's wife parked illegally and Sergeyev, who was working as a parking attendant, told her to move her car.

Sergeyev claims that Valuev's wife got nasty after he asked her to move her car. Following the arguement, he further claims that Valuev showed up, dragged him to an empty shed and then began assaulting him. A doctor within a St. Petersburg hospital said Sergeyev had suffered a concussion, bruising to the face and scratches.

Valuev claims that Sergeyev was very nasty with his wife, she called him in tears and he ran down to the ring in order to defend her.

"I sincerely regret the conflict, but you have to understand: I acted like any normal man in my position would have, whether he was the world champion or a simple engineer. I stood up for my wife, Galina, and my 3-year-old son, Grisha." said Valuev to russian website Gazeta.ru

While Valuev admits to grabbing Sergeyev by the collar, he denies ever striking him. Valuev told the Russian media that the parking attendants at the rink had given his wife a hard time in the past and one of them allegedly shoved his young son.

At the present, no criminal investigation has been started.
