ETCHES AND JENKINS GET TWO LOTS OF GOOD NEWS
HATTON PROMOTIONS prospects Adam Etches and Scott Jenkins have had two lots of good news in less than seven days.
Last week, the unbeaten pair were given the huge honour of becoming ambassadors for the Weston Park Cancer Charity.
And then on Tuesday manager Richard Poxon informed them they will be appearing on the undercard of Kell Brook's clash with Vyacheslav Senchenko at Sheffield's Motorpoint Arena on October 26.
Boxing at such a large venue will enable them to raise even more awareness for the good work that the charity does, particularly through its teenage cancer unit which helps patients aged between 16 and 25 in comfortable surroundings.
Adam, 22, said: "I'm overwhelmed. Although I'm doing well in my boxing career, I'm still only a novice and so it's nice to be able to do something that only people like Jessica Ennis usually get asked to do.
"I know the more I progress, the more awareness I can get for a brilliant cause."
The young boxers have already played a huge role in helping Richard Poxon raise more than £23,000 for the charity through his regular shows in the Steel City.
Scott, also 22, said: "We've been involved in Richard's charity shows for about three years now and it's always felt good to be able to help out.
"Getting asked to become an ambassador is something I'm really pleased about and proud of."
As well as offering a chance to get make more people take notice of Weston Park Cancer Charity, their fights in October will mark steps forward in their respective careers and enable them to potentially increase their large fanbases even further.
"It's an opportunity for me to box in front of a big crowd, put on a good performance and convert a few more general boxing fans into my fans," Adam, who has won ten of his 12 victories by knockout, stated.
"I've always want to box at the Arena and I hope to top the bill there in my own right one day."
Scott, 9 – 0 (4 KOs), added: "From being a kid I've always wanted to box at this venue. I remember when I was a youngster I saw Ricky Hatton fight Carlos Maussa there and I thought 'this is where I want to be', so now it's like a dream come true."
Steve Goodwin is delighted to announce the signing of exciting Edinburgh based boxer 25 year old John “Gypsy Boy” McCallum.
McCallum who was star amateur winning over 90% of his fights and representing Scotland on many occasions has had a very slow start to his professional career having only 4 fights in three years.
Whilst winning all four fights his career has lacked momentum and so he has now signed a three year contract with the ever expanding Goodwin team.
Steve said “I am delighted to have signed John. There is no doubt he has the talent to reach the top and we aim to get him there very quickly over the next 18 months. John will have his next outing on a Phil Jeffries show on September 28th. I expect to see John fighting around the UK whilst we build him towards title contention. I want to see the Edinburgh community get behind John. “
John said “I am delighted to sign with Steve. He is forward thinking and will create the opportunities for me over the next 18 months.”

Black Country boxing aces Jason Welborn and Ryan Aston have been helping each other prepare for their upcoming fights.
Welborn takes on Max Maxwell for the vacant British Masters Light Middleweight Title at Walsall Town Hall on Saturday, 7th September whilst middleweight Aston is in action a week later on Friday, 13th September at The Institute in Digbeth, Birmingham.
The pair have enjoyed a number of sparring sessions together in the build-up to their respective fights.
"Sparring has been a real test of preparation for me going into this fight and I have Ryan to thank for that,” Welborn told www.uko-boxing.com . "Sparring Ryan has been a good test for me. He's highly thought of and he has a huge future in the game.
“He's a bit heavier than me but I'm holding my own with him and I feel prepared and ready for this fight with Maxwell."
Welborn made an impressive start to life at light middleweight by convincingly beating Poland's Tomasz Mazurkiewicz back in June. September's title match with Maxwell will be the 27 year-old’s first shot at a belt since losing the British Welterweight Title to Frankie Gavin back in January.
That contest was also fought out at Walsall's Town Hall and the Rowley Regis boxer will be looking to bounce back to winning ways in front of a red hot local crowd on EJKO Promotions’ ‘Boys From The Black Country: The Aftermath’ show.
"It will be nice to get back to the Town Hall and win the title,” he added. “The Frankie Gavin fight has passed me now and I can't wait to get going on the seventh.
"Everything's new compared to January. I'm a new weight and I'm a lot stronger both mentally and physically.
"The crowd should be loud and electric and I'll be looking to do the business at. Hopefully then I can fight for other titles."
Aston on the other hand goes into It’s-A-Bout-Boxing’s ‘Friday 13th’ bill on the back of an impressive stoppage win over Yorkshire's Harry Matthews to bag his first belt – a British Masters Title at Super-Middleweight.
The 22-year old is hoping for further title glory in the future but isn’t looking past his next fight.
"I always prepare and take each fight as it comes,” Aston told www.uko-boxing.com . “Hopefully I can be in contention for another title shot in the next twelve months but I can't think of that too much just yet.
“I need to be on my toes and stay prepared for each fight as and when it comes. I’ve enjoyed a good camp for this fight and it’s been good to work with Jason Welborn.
"I'm feeling confident, I'm on weight and I'm ready for the show at The Institute."
Tickets to see Welborn, priced at £30 and £60 Ringside, are available from Walsall Town Hall Box Office on 0845 111 2900.
Tickets to see Aston are £25 General, £50 Ringside and £75 VIP Ringside. They are by calling the Box Office on 0845 467 3930 or 07888 870 650.
Lausanne - The AIBA Pro Boxing's (APB) social media campaign "Boxer of the Week" headed to one of the world's strongest boxing nations this week, namely Russia. Boxing fans were delighted to discover that current World Champion and London 2012 Olympic Bronze medallist Misha Aloian has been announced on the APB roster and will soon step into the ring as a pro.
As usual the campaign focused on questions that were raised by fans on the APB Facebook (facebook.com/APB.Boxing) and Twitter (@APB_Boxing) pages to create a fan-generated interview. The result of this process was an intimate portrayal of an intelligent athlete who is hoping to dominate his category at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The three time Russian National Champion explained that the most important fights of his career included wins over London 2012 Olympic Champion Robeisy Ramirez from Cuba to win the World Championships in 2011, and his victory over Welshman Andrew Selby in the same tournament. Interestingly, he also mentioned a defeat to the Mongolian boxer Tugstsogt Nyambayar at the 2009 World Championships in Milan as something which spurred him onto greater things.
"It was also that fight that gave me the motivation to improve my boxing skills and techniques", said the Russian. "I believe that challenge helped me to become the National Champion three times in a row and also come back to the World Championships in 2011 and get gold".
He also revealed some trade secrets when he explained to fans that "Your mental state is a decisive factor during the fight and it usually depends on your preparation and readiness for the fight. If I am 100% ready for a fight then why should I worry? If a boxer enters the ring with doubts or worries, he will never be able to overcome his opponent. My philosophy is quite simple. Boxing is my life's work and if I am doing my favourite job I have nothing to worry about".
Interestingly he says the Russian team, which was the most dominant nation at this year's European Continental championships, has begun to significantly change their style of boxing, hence their sudden success. "The whole National team is gradually changing the style of their boxing training", he said "as the sport is being judged in a manner that resembles the pro-style ever more closely. This is the future of our sport and the athletes have to develop at the same pace as the sport does".
Aloian believes that APB is the way forward for the sport. "The pro style of this competition attracts me a lot. I am sure that within APB, there will only be the best boxers in the world and I get a guaranty of several fights a year against the best possible opponents".

APB's "Boxer of the Week" campaign was launched on May 13th. It is designed to unveil the entire APB boxers' roster athlete by athlete.
