According to UFC announcer Bruce Buffer, he's been contacted several times by those close to eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao - because they are attempting to reach the management of MMA superstar Conor McGregor.

News erupted last month, after Pacquiao claimed that his team was in talks with McGregor about a potential boxing match.

Pacquiao first hinted at the fight on social media, by sending a message to McGregor - a move that send the media in both sports into a frenzy.

UFC President Dana White would eventually go public to make it known that he would legally go after Pacquiao's team - if they were stepping around the UFC to speak with McGregor directly.

"That would be weird, because (McGregor’s) under contract with us,” White told MMAjunkie. “If that’s true, I will be suing Manny Pacquiao and whoever is representing him.”

McGregor made his professional boxing debut back in August.

McGregor fought with the comebacking five division champion Floyd Mayweather, who won the contest with a tenth round TKO at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Both McGregor and Mayweather made a fortune from the fight, with 4 million pay-per-view buys - revenue numbers that created a boxing frenzy as several top boxing names have called out McGregor.

According to Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, there were no discussions between Pacquiao's team and McGregor's management.

Yet Buffer reveals that Pacquiao's people contacted him on several occasions to reach out to McGregor's management - and he advised them to contact someone like White.

"All respect to Manny Pacquiao, one of my favorite boxers of all-time. I think for me personally, the Mayweather vs. McGregor fight was the fight that we all enjoyed and got $100 worth of entertainment. I would rather see Conor get back to MMA, it excites me much more," Buffer told TMZ Sports.

"Lets see a boxer fight under MMA rules and fight Conor in the octagon, and it might be another tremendously huge payday. And honestly if you know Manny Pacquiao and you know about his training and his background... who knows? It could be a possibility, you never know. That, to me, would be a mega-fight. Stepping in the octagon. Conor has already stepped into the squared ring. Maybe its time for someone with major status in boxing to step into the octagon.

"I’ve had some of Manny’s friends call me and say, 'Can you talk to Conor’s management?' I've had that happen over the last six months. It's not my position to do that. I told them, 'You guys know who to call -- call the right people.' Money talks and people walk."
