At the Tokyo Big Sight in Tokyo, Japan, undefeated Takashi Uchiyama (14-0, 11 KOs), captured the WBA super featherweight title with a twelfth round stoppage over previously undefeated Juan Carlos Salgado (22-1-1, 16 KOs). Uchiyama wore Salgado down during the the fight and began to unload in the late rounds. He dropped Salgado in the final round and continued to batter him until referee Raul Caiz Sr. jumped in to stop the fight. Salgado was coming off a very impressive first round stoppage of Jorge Linares last October.

In other action, WBA "regular" super bantamweight champion Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym (40-1, 28 KOs) won a majority twelve round decision over previously unbeaten Satoshi Hosono (16-1, 12 KOs). The scores were 115-113, 117-113 and 114-114. It was a very active fight with both boxers trading a lot of hard shots. Kratingdaenggym was more accurate and landed the better punches to score points. He made the first defense of the title he won from Bernard Dunne in 2009.

Kratingdaenggym then challenged Hasegawa after the fight.

"I'm proud that I defended the title in a foreign country. He (Hosono) is a big fighter, so I'm satisfied with a decision victory," said Kratingdaenggym. "If the WBC bantamweight champion Hozumi Hasegawa wants to challenge me, I'm ready to fight against him."

Hosono offered no excuses and praised the champion.

"It was a shock for me that I couldn't beat the champion. I couldn't hit him because of his excellent technique. I'm going to work harder and get stronger," said Hosono.
