Former unified heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) is very eager to return to the sport, according his uncle and head trainer Peter Fury.

Fury last fought in November 2015, when he traveled to Germany to pull off one of the biggest upsets in the last few years when he won a twelve round unanimous decision over Wladimir Klitschko to capture the IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight titles.

Fury was quickly stripped of the IBF title for his failure to make a mandatory defense against Czar Glazkov. He was unable to make that defense, because Klitschko exercised an immediate rematch clause which prevented him from taking any other fights.

The rematch never happened. Fury had a mental breakdown and eventually vacated his remaining world titles to focus on his mental health.

Then last October he had his boxing license suspended by the British Board, after the boxer admitted to abusing recreational drugs and alcohol.

Fury is also dealing with a drug testing issue. Drug testing agency UKAD [UK Anti-Doping] has accused Fury and his cousin, Hughie Fury, of testing positive for banned substance nandrolone in urine samples submitted in February 2015. They were not charged until June 24, 2016.

The Fury cousins have denied the allegations. The hearing has been postponed until an undetermined date in the fall and Tyson Fury is unable to reclaim his license to box until a decision has been rendered by UKAD.

“We can’t say much at the moment, it’s ongoing. The legal team, we’ve got one of the best legal teams in the world, and they’re dealing with it,” Peter Fury told Boxing News.

“Tyson is definitely coming back, he’s got the bit between the teeth and his exact words were: ‘I need to come back, clean up the heavyweight division and get rid of bum city.’ He’s been looking on the sidelines at what’s going on and he can’t wait to get back.”
