Tureano Johnson (19-1, 13 KOs), in active since October 2015 due to injury, will return tomorrow night as part of a Golden Boy Promotions card in Indio, California. The event will feature an HBO televised doubleheader with Francisco Vargas facing Miguel Berchelt and Takashi Miura battling Miguel Roman.

In his last outing, Johnson defeated Eamonn O’Kane last time out via unanimous decision. This time he will go up against Mexico’s Antonio Gutiérrez (21-2-1, 9 KOs).

Tureano has a lot of respect for UK fighters, but he also believes a number of them are not stepping up to the plate to take tough fights - like WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders and once beaten Chris Eubank Jr.

He wonders why Saunders and Eubank Jr. are not following in the footsteps of their countrymen, James DeGale and Kell Brook, who have taken chances against tough opposition and traveled overseas when needed.

"Respect to the UK fighters but I don’t see many of them stepping up other than Kell Brook.  I respect that kid, man.  He stepped up and fought GGG and he also fought Shawn Porter in the United States.  DeGale did it, why can’t Billy Jo Saunders or even Chris Eubank Jr?  I don’t see them coming out of the UK protection," Johnson told BoxingScene.com.

“Chris Eubank Jr is fighting for the super middleweight IBO title but he hasn’t done anything at middleweight yet, so that shows the credibility there.”

Despite Kell Brook’s brave display against middleweight king Gennady Golovkin last September, Tureano does not believe that the Sheffield man uncovered too many flaws in the Kazakh superstar.

“I respect Brook stepping up two weight classes but honestly I think it was a gimmick.  GGG could have taken care of Brook in the first round, it’s my honest opinion even though I’m not an analyst.

“I don’t believe it was a real fight,” he continued.
