Troy Williamson has made the decision to turn professional.
The Team GB squad member, from Darlington, is a former ABA champion and has competed in the World Series of Boxing in the headguard and vest.
But now Williamson has ditched the colours of his country in favour of punching for pay and has signed a managerial deal with MGM.
It has been revealed that the 24-year-old will campaign in the middleweight division as a pro, but he has yet to reveal the promotional company under which banner he will perform.
"I competed at a very high level as an amateur and learned everything I could from the amateur game,” said Williamson after the confirmation of his switch.
“I am now ready to join the professional ranks and I am happy to be doing this with such a strong team behind me.
“I am delighted to be a part of the team.”
MGM managing director, Sam Kynoch, was eager to praise the team’s latest charge after the move was disclosed.
He said: “Troy's style is ideally suited to the professional ranks and I believe that he will go far.
“He is a very driven individual and I look forward to working with him.”
Details of Williamson’s professional debut will be confirmed in due course.
Meanwhile, MGM have also confirmed the signing of Ryan Moorhead.
The Liverpool man, 7-1 (1 KO), campaigns in the super-featherweight division and will return to the ring on October 7 at Greenbank Sports Academy as part of MGM Liverpool’s inaugural show.
