Glenn Rushton, trainer of Australia's Jeff Horn, says his fighter is ready for Floyd Mayweather Jr. after the Aussie secured a shock victory over Manny Pacquiao to take the Filipino's WBO welterweight title.

The 29-year-old former schoolteacher was awarded a unanimous 12-round decision over the eight-division world champion after a bloody battle in front of more than 51,000 fans at Brisbane's Lang Park on Sunday.

Not everybody was happy with the victory, awarded with scores of 117-111, 115-113 and 115-113 by the three judges.

The critics of the decision pointed to the 182 to 92 punch count in favour of the Pacquiao, with some suggesting that Horn was awarded the victory for effort.

Pacquiao, whose defeat was his first since his blockbuster clash with Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2005, indicated on Sunday that he would take up the option of a rematch and Horn said he would be delighted to face the 38-year-old in his first title defence.

Horn, whose career record improved to 17-0-1, said he would also like to have a crack at 40-year-old Mayweather, who has come out of retirement for a 12-round crossover bout against mixed martial arts champion Conor McGregor on August 26.

After concocting a successful 10-point plan for Horn's clash with Pacquiao, Rushton said he was confident he could come up with a blueprint that would end Mayweather's streak.

"It'll be a different plan. I don't know whether it'll be 10 points, eight points or five points," Rushton said.

"I'll need to do the research and spend hundreds of hours like I did studying Manny Pacquiao to crystallise it down to a plan.

"Rest assured, Jeff Horn can beat Mayweather. I don't have any doubt whatsoever.

"If he wants to dust down Conor McGregor, which he will, then by all means ... come back to the real world and take on a real challenge. Jeff Horn's ready and waiting for him."
