Tommy Coyle got back to winning ways on Saturday –– but it came at a big cost.

The Hull super-lightweight added another win to his record, exclusively live on Sky Sports.

But after being hurt in the opener against late replacement opponent Rakeem Noble (11-2, 5 KOs) at the Ice Arena in his home city, as part of the undercard to Gavin McDonnell’s brave defeat at the hands of Rey Vargas for the vacant WBC super-bantamweight world title, Coyle spent the evening in hospital.

He got rid of Noble two rounds later in the third, but after the show promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that the 27-year-old (23-4, 11 KOs) to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment in the aftermath.

Coyle confirmed on social media on Sunday that he suffered a fractured left eye socket in the first round of his fight with Noble and at this stage it is unclear for how long he will be out of action.

“Back to winning ways,” he tweeted, “despite spending the night in hospital after suffering a fracture to my eye socket in round one.

“I [will] tell you something, [I’ve] never felt pain like it. [I want to say a] massive thanks to [all the] doctors and nurses at Hull Royal last night.”

Further details regarding the recovery and return of ‘Boom Boom’ Coyle will be revealed in due course.
