WBA welterweight world champion Keith 'One Time' Thurman (26-0, 22KOs) is focused on sticking around in the welterweight division for a very long time. He wants to emulate, or come close, to the dominance that Floyd Mayweather Jr. had in the division.
Thurman had a big year with two network debut headliners. He topped the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) debut show on NBC with a win over Robert Guerrero and then headlined the PBC debut on ESPN with a knockout of Luis Collazo.
BoxingScene.com first reported earlier today that Thurman's next return is being planned for March 5th in Las Vegas, against former champion Shawn "Showtime" Porter.
"I am the kind of person who knows that I have talent , power, I have the heart of a true warrior and I will prove it every time," Thurman told Nube Urgiles. "If possible, I want to become the best welterweight fighter of all time."
"Since I was a child, my dream was to make history in the sport . Mayweather made ??history, he made ??his mark, people are still wondering if he will fight, and if he returns - who will fight."
Since Mayweather retired in September, there are still rumors that he might fight again. If he does, Thurman would still love the opportunity to face him.
"The numbers he put uo, the number of his followers, his record. It would be exciting, it would be a great fight," Thurman said. "[To beat Mayweather is] very simple: you have to hit him. Floyd has many skills ... he's used his ability to not get hit throughout his career. If you don't hit him, then he can't be beat. He is a talented athlete, but I am young, strong, hungry and I'm ready."
