The winner of this Thursday’s fight between Mary Spencer and Mikaela Mayer will be able to go as a unified champion for Halloween.

The WBC and WBO junior middleweight titles recently vacated by the retiring Cecilia Braekhus will be at stake in their fight at Casino de Montreal, in addition to Spencer’s WBA belt. The news was confirmed to BoxingScene by Eye of the Tiger Management, the event’s promoter.

Braekhus, a future Hall of Famer, announced her retirement in the ring after dethroning Ema Kozin on October 4 in Braekhus’ home country of Norway. Kozin had won those titles two years earlier in a split decision over Hannah Rankin.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman also confirmed that his organization’s title will be at stake in a text message to BoxingScene.

“We are proud and honored to be part of such a great contest involving two of the best women in boxing,” said Sulaiman. “This title has the inspiration of the great Cecilia Braekhus, who just retired as reigning champion.”

Spencer, 10-2 (6 KOs), is a 2012 Olympian who lives in Montreal. She is making the second defense of her WBA belt, having been bumped up to full titleholder status after winning the interim title in 2024 with a unanimous decision over Naomi Mannes.

“This fight will be exciting because of the warriors meeting in the ring, not the three titles on the line," Spencer told BoxingScene. "While fighting for unified titles certainly raises the stakes, the work has been done and the fans will definitely be rewarded.”

Mayer, 21-2 (5 KOs), represented the U.S. in the 2016 Olympics and is the reigning WBO welterweight titleholder. She is seeking a championship in her third weight class after winning belts at 130 and 147lbs.

Mayer was unavailable for comment due to her traveling to Canada on Monday.

Spencer-Mayer will be the main event to a card that also includes an all-Quebec super middleweight fight between Wilkens Mathieu and Shakeel Phinn.

The fourth major title in the 154lbs weight class, the IBF, is currently held by another Olympian, Oshae Jones, 9-0 (3 KOs), who won the belt last November with a split decision over Femke Hermans. Jones has since made one defense.
