Cameron Vuong was due to be in action this weekend in Newcastle, but the lightweight contender picked up an injury and his return to the ring has been delayed.
Vuong is 9-0-1 (4 KOs) and boxed a hard-fought draw with tough Welshman Gavin Gwynne in a November 2025 rematch of their bout one year before, which Vuong won controversially on points.
Sam Jones, who advises Vuong, said: “I want to get him out as soon as possible. He had a little niggle at the start of the year; he was going to be on this card this weekend, but we can’t rush him back. But I think a Michael Gomez Jnr fight for him next would be perfect, something like that. Or the Ahmed Hatim fight, because I know Ahmed’s been calling Cameron out for a while. We’re game for that fight. Cameron wants to look at the British title this year, and he’ll fight anybody in front of him that’s going to lead him up to that.”
There are some who believe the Gwynne feud is not over, but for Jones it is far from a priority moving forward for his fighter.
“Listen, with the Gavin Gwynne fight, Gavin came off a loss to Mark Chamberlain, and if you look at that, Gavin Gwynne’s caused problems to everyone he’s been in the ring with,” Jones continued. “He’s an absolute nightmare to fight, and Cameron’s boxed him twice. I know people might disagree but, in my opinion, he’s beaten him twice. He definitely beat him once, and that’s that.
“I think that chapter for now is closed. His whole career can’t be dictated around Gavin Gwynne. We want to get him in the position where he fights for the British title, and I believe in Cameron. I’ve a stable full of great young fighters, and he’s one of them.”
Jones’ stable is busy.
He’s recently started working with Skye Nicolson, 15-1 (3 KOs), who is set to box in Australia in April, and he has 4-0 (4 KOs) Brighton featherweight prospect Adam Maca, who is set to box in March. Hamza Uddin, 6-0 (3 KOs), should defend his English flyweight title in June ahead of a fight for the British title later this year.
