Thammanoon Niyomtrong retained his World Boxing Association (WBA) minimumweight super championship on Tuesday by beating Japan’s Norihito Tanaka with a unanimous decision in Nakhon Sawan, Thailand.

Niyomtrong proved, once again, that he is one of the top names in the 105-pound category, winning with authority n the scorecards of 120-107, 120-107 and 119-108.

“Knockout Freshmart”, as the Asian is nicknamed, knocked down his opponent once during the first round and that marked the one sided fight where the champion was in wide control during all the rounds.

Although he was recently promoted to Super Champion due to his dominance in the division, Niyomtrong has already carried out 12 successful defenses since he became WBA monarch for the first time in 2014.

With this victory, Niyomtrong maintains his undefeated record of 21 wins, with 7 knockouts, while Tanaka has a record of 19 wins, 8 losses and 10 knockouts.

Torres is the nephew of former WBC light flyweight titlist German "Ozeki" Torres, which offered him the opportunity to fight overseas. Also nicknamed "Alacran", Torres is riding a current 4 fight knockout streak, winning the WBC Latino light flyweight title in his last outing, upsetting former world champion Ganigan Lopez(TKO1) on Telemundo.
