Tevin Farmer (22-4-1, 5 KOs) has been telling anyone who will listen that he is a world champion in the making and, after his last performance many among the boxing public seem to be agreeing with him.  If he gets his wish the Philadelphian will have the opportunity to prove he is one of the very best in the not so distant future.

“The fight I want for next March is Leo Santa Cruz,” Farmer told BoxingScene.com.

“I’d also go to the UK to fight Carl Frampton.  Maybe they’ll think I’m a tune up fight for their own rematch but I think both of them are too small for me.  I’d be the underdog in the fight but put some money on me.  I could make 126lbs.”

Fans on social media have expressed their belief that Farmer may be a future world champion based on his recent displays.  Andre Ward also chipped in during a recent interview with some praise for the 26-year-old southpaw.

“I’m not surprised by it because I always knew I would be a star, but now everybody is talking about it and it’s letting me know it’s becoming a reality.  They asked Andre Ward who the next face of boxing was and he said my name, he could have said anyone!”

Farmer’s most recent outing was a comprehensive points victory over hard-punching Ivan Redkach on July 30.  He now gets a quick turnaround with an October 14 appearance in his hometown at the 2300 Arena.

“Orlando Rizo is my next opponent; we’re going to get it on.  Right now we’re working towards reaching the number one spot.  Right now I am number six with the WBC, I’ve got one more fight this year after this one, it’ll be in December.  Hopefully I can come back in March with a big fight, that’ll be great.  Last year I had eight months off from August to March so I’m happy to stay active.

“I was very pleased with the Redkach performance.  I knew coming into the fight, I told them in the fighters meeting that I would do that.  I have to practice what I preach and do what I say I’m going to do,” he continued.

“I looked good at 130lbs and 135lbs but I would like to campaign at 130lbs, those guys are naturally my size even though I can beat a lot of guys at 135lbs.  For the time being I’ll be at 130, until I get some titles.”

Farmer, promoted by Lou DiBella had hoped for a rematch with IBF super featherweight champion José Pedraza, also promoted by DiBella, however he believes that is now unlikely.

“I don’t think I’ll be getting the Pedraza rematch, he was talking about fighting my stablemate Jason Sosa. I told Sosa that and he said he’s ready.”
