Olympic boxing legend Teofilo Stevenson has died at age 60, according to reports from Cuba. He is said to have had a heart attack.
The heavyweight star won gold medals at three separate Games - in Munich in 1972, at Montreal four years later and again in Moscow in 1980. He was denied the chance to add to his haul when Communist Cuba boycotted the 1984 and 88 Olympics.
Stevenson, who possessed a devastating right hand and deft footwork, was also renowned for his sportsmanship.
In the mid 1970s, when he was still in his early 20s, he was tipped to take on Muhammad Ali but Cuba insisted he keep his amateur status.
After retirement he insisted he had no regrets about not turning pro.
"I prefer the affection of eight million Cubans," he said.
