Last month, Marco Huck (34-2, 25 KOs), the current WBO cruiserweight king, made a big impression on a lot of people when he nearly won the WBA "regular" heavyweight title from Alexander Povetkin (24-0, 16 KOs). Huck came close, but lost a twelve round majority decision.
During a recent interview, Huck said that he would like to fight Povetkin in a rematch and then stage a clash with a Klitschko brother at Olympic Stadium in Berlin. Huck prefers Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KOs), the WBC's world champion.
Bernd Boente, manager of Vitali, believes Huck can be an interesting opponent. But first Huck would have to position himself in the WBC's top fifteen.
However, the real issue would be the television rights in Germany. Vitali is contracted to RTL, while Huck has a contract deal, through his promoter Sauerland Event, with network rival ARD.
"Huck proved that he has the heart to fight, but first he has to be positioned within the top fifteen in the WBC's rankings. If his financial demands are reasonable, he would be an interesting candidate to fight Vitali. The fight, of course, would have to be shown on RTL television," Boente said.
If Huck returns to cruiserweight, he would have to fight mandatory challenger Ola Afolabi (19-2-3, 9 KOs).
