The team behind Olympic gold medal winner Yuriorkis Gamboa (21-0, 16KOs) are expecting their fighter to dominate the lightweight division. Gamboa will make the jump, from featherweight to lightweight, on April 14th at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas - as he challenges former champion Brandon Rios (29-0-1, 22KOs).
Jose Perez, a United States representative of Arena Box, who co-promote Gamboa with Top Rank, expects the Cuban fighter to be a real force at 135-pounds.
"For Yuri, this is the biggest challenge of his career, that's for sure. But on that day, Yuri will show that he can dominate at 135-pounds in the same manner as he did at 126. He will blow away everyone in his new division," Perez told George Ebro.
