Barrhead’s Gary “Razor” Rae has revealed that his inclusion on the undercard of Josh Taylor’s WBC Silver light-welterweight title defence against Humberto Soto at Glasgow’s Hydro Arena is a dream come true and one that even his own nephew never believe would come fruition. 

The 29-year-old has been added to the card, which is promoted by Blain McGuigan of Cyclone Promotions and will be shown live on Channel 5 in the UK, and he hopes to move to 7-0 before taking in the main event.

“I took (my nephew) Cole to the Irn-Bru Carnival at the SEC over Christmastime and we took a wee walk by The Hydro,” he said when speaking to the Paisley Daily Express.  “I pointed at it and said that one day I would box there.  But he wasn't having it.  He just said, ‘aye right’.

“He's genuinely my biggest fan.  He is making a scrapbook of all my fights from newspaper cuttings and pictures—but even he wasn't so sure.  It's crazy that just a few weeks later I am getting a call telling me that I'm going to be boxing there.  I've told him now and he is absolutely ecstatic.  He just stood their open-mouthed.  I don't think he thought I was telling him the truth.  But I'm not surprised he's so shocked.”

He added: “I know it won't be packed to the rafters when I'm fighting, but that's not the point.  This is massive for me.  The last time I was there was to see the comedian Kevin Bridges.  I was right up the back.  Now I'll be the one that everyone is watching.  It's crazy."

The Super bantamweight prospect has posted wins over modest opposition like Jose Aguilar, Luis Espinosa and Craig Derbyshire.  He will hope to add another victory as he learns his trade and bids to move into title contention yet stated that being part of this bill is an early career highlight.  “It is an opportunity to make memories for a lifetime, not just for me but for my family and friends,” he said.  “I hope to do everyone proud, and I just can't wait now.”
