Trainer Emanuel Steward is not expecting a long night when WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko defends his title against Samuel Peter on Saturday in Frankfurt, Germany. Five years ago Peter knocked Klitschko down three times before Wladimir won a twelve round unanimous decision. Steward doesn't expect anything of the sort in the rematch. He is expecting Wladimir to clean up with is fists in four to five rounds of action.
"I'm glad the upcoming fight is between two punchers. I particularly like knockouts. The punching power of Wladimir has significantly improved since the last fight against Peter five years ago. Since that time we have fught with good boxers - Tony Thompson, Eddie Chambers - but they do not have a punch. I also know that Peter is not only a good puncher, but that now he is in excellent shape. Sam is much better today than he was five years ago, Steward told Alexander Pavlov.
Steward says Peter has greatly improved, but so has Klitschko. He says Klistchko is a better boxer, stronger, and should finish off Peter in five rounds.
"I think Klitschko has become the perfect boxer. He works perfectly, not only with the left hook, but with his right hand. Although his most dangerous punch is the left hook. He dictates the pace of his fights, and clearly keeps his distance. If he wants to, he can can make it a real fight. This time he will not be overexcited, like five years ago, whne he fought with Peter. Then Wladimir was full of emotion. Now he is more stable and mature, self-confident and more balanced, and his punch is more powerful than it was then. I think we will win in the fourth or fifth round."
