Humberto "Zorrita" Soto and his manager Antonio Lozada of Baja Boxing are currently designing the perfect game plan for their crucial high-stakes match against Argentinian puncher Lucas Matthysse (29-2, 27 KOs), scheduled for May 19 at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Soto plans to hit the Otomi Ceremonial Center during the last week of March or early April, with trainer Romulo Quirarte Jr., in order to have a hard training period of 50 days, enough to arrive in the most optimal combat conditions to for the supporting co-feature to Lamont Peterson vs. Amir Khan.
"Humberto is a boxer who has never had problems with his preparations. He's a professional and always prepares to the fullest. So now we have this commitment, which is very important with Argentine Lucas Matthysse, so we'll try to have the best training camp of his career," said Antonio Lozada.
"We have referred to several boxers [for sparring] who fit the profile [of Matthysse]. This is a very important aspect in training and we are going to look good. Soto is a fighter who likes to become familiar with the style of his opponent and Mexico has several fighters like Matthysse."
For his part, Humberto Soto (57-7-2, 34 KOs) is ready to go through the toughest training camp of his long career.
"Since [the fight] became official, I've been psyched about this commitment and I am really motivated. I will make a conscious preparation, better than ever, because I want to give a memorable performance at all of the Mexican fans. I want them to be proud of me and we'll give them every last effort in the gym and in the ring," said Soto.
