Six members of the Smithy’s Gym amateur boxing team are ready for the biggest fights of their lives at the national Golden Gloves tournament in Brisbane this weekend.

The three day tournament has become one of the most prestigious tournaments of the year, with teams coming from all over the country as well as New Zealand and even as far as England for their chance to be crowned Golden Glove champion.

Representing Smithy’s Gym lead by team captain and current Australian champion Steven Spark along with Sam Williams, Ben Whitaker, James Spark, Daniel Ajak and Josh Webb.

These young fighters will be taking on the best in Australia in their respective divisions and according to trainer Brendon Smith each have a great chance of bringing home the gold.

“I’m really excited about the team we have selected to take away and compete. Every one of these boys has worked hard throughout the year and is a medal chance. I have seen the team bond grow throughout the year and there is no doubt in my mind that each fighter will give 110%,” said head trainer Brendon Smith.

The team will depart tomorrow night ahead of the first weigh in on Friday morning, with the first session of fights on Friday afternoon.
