Although most were expecting Gervonta Davis to take care of business against Ryan Garcia, countless prognosticators believed that the 24-year-old could give his longtime rival a run for his money. This past Saturday night, April 22nd, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) effectively cruised to a lopsided victory.

Following a violent left hand that saw Garcia kiss the canvas in the second frame, Davis ended the night of his man in the seventh, courtesy of a well-timed body shot. Most that plunked down their hard-earned money to attend were ultimately astonished by Davis’ demolition job. Shakur Stevenson, nevertheless, saw that one-sided drubbing coming from a mile away.

“I thought Tank looked sharp,” said Stevenson to ESNEWS during a recent interview. “I thought he did everything that I knew he was gonna do.”

In addition to taking a look into his crystal ball, Stevenson reveals that he’s never been quite as high on Garcia (23-1, 19 KOs) in comparison to others.

Before his daring-to-be-great moment, the California native rose to fame thanks to his ridiculous hand speed, mind-numbing power, and of course, good looks. In totality, however, Stevenson has never bought in.

Skills aside, Stevenson (20-0, 10 KOs) appeared flummoxed as to what Garcia was attempting to accomplish. In the second round, in particular, Garcia pressed the action against Davis. In doing so, he let off the same three combinations, resulting in Davis picking up on that pattern and ultimately flooring him.

Considering his head-scratching game plan, Stevenson questions whether or not Garcia took the time to pop in any game tape and actually study Davis.

“I think Ryan is not that good. Ryan didn’t know his distance, he didn’t know how to keep his reach together. He was reckless. It was like he didn’t watch any of Tank’s fights.”
