Shakur Stevenson knew that some would be hesitant but he didn’t expect everyone to tuck their tails between their legs and go in the other direction. According to the former Olympic silver medalist, landing a fight against a notable opponent has been one the most difficult and frustrating things he's ever gone through.

After failing to make weight in his final fight at 130 pounds, Stevenson (20-0, 10 KOs) looked at the 135-pound division as a way to hand his body a reprieve but one that was also loaded with talent. All of the big names were once there. Teofimo Lopez, Devin Haney, Gervonta Davis, Frank Martin, and of course, Vasiliy Lomachenko. So far, however, landing a fight against any of those aforementioned names has been damn near impossible.

Showdowns against Lopez and Haney are dead in the water considering their divisional change of scenery and both Martin and Davis are on the supposed other side of the street. Lomachenko, on the other hand, was the one name Stevenson gravitated to. The former two-division champ has been respectful in his callouts, simply saying that it would be his honor to face the former two-time Olympic gold medalist. The Ukrainian though, from what Stevenson says, isn’t interested.

At one point, the reverence he had for his fellow champion was through the roof. Now? That’s all been flushed down the toilet.

“Man, Vasiliy Lomachenko I used to have a lot of respect for you,” claimed Stevenson on his social media account. “But you just as scary as everybody else I see." 

By and large, Haney has been the only person on Lomachenko’s mind. His newfound obsession with the undisputed lightweight champ stems from their recent showdown. Just a few short months ago, Lomachenko stood on the ropes, raised his hands in the air, and waited patiently for the three judges sitting ringside to hand him his newly won titles. That, of course, never happened, as Haney was given a close unanimous decision victory.

Irate and flummoxed by what took place, the now 35-year-old has demanded an immediate rematch, one that doesn't appear to be taking place anytime soon, if ever.

Although we aren't privy to the conclaves that have taken place between both teams, Stevenson is disappointed. From where he stands, it seems as though Lomachenko will do anything in his power to eschew from facing him, including hanging up his gloves for good.
