Former WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-3-2, 28KOs) is not going to make a decision regarding the future of his career until the month of January, according to close friend and adviser Sampson Lewkowicz.

Martinez has been inactive since getting a one-sided pounding at the hands of Miguel Cotto on June 7th in New York's Madison Square Garden. The boxer has been suffering from severe right knee injuries that have affected his career tremendously. He was practically one legged fighter against Cotto.

He won't make a decision on his career until a doctor advises him about the options to heal his right knee. If further surgery is required, Martinez will retire.

"Anything said is uncertain at this time," said Lewkowicz to ESPN Deportes. "The last time we spoke was in Córdoba on November 15. I believe we will not know anything until January."
