The Irish junior welterweight Sean McComb recovered from a first-round knockdown to earn a unanimous decision at the conclusion of 10 rounds with Ben Crocker of Wales.
A left hook sent the 33 year old to the canvas but McComb – whose two defeats came against Gavin Gwynne, another Welshman, and Arnold Barboza Jnr – recovered convincingly at the Park Community Arena in Sheffield, England and ultimately earned three scores of 96-93. Crocker, 31, had never previously been beaten.
The 27-year-old Tysie Gallagher had by then defended the British and Commonwealth super-bantamweight titles against her fellow Englishwoman Ellie Hellewell, via scores of 98-93, 97-93 and 97-94. Hellewell, 25, was also previously undefeated.
It had been a year to the day that Gallagher had last won, when defeating Tori-Ellis Willetts. She had been scheduled to fight Ebonie Jones in February but the murder of her mother-in-law Diane Cleary in January led to a postponement until May. Jones then failed to make weight, further delaying Gallagher’s return to the ring.
There was also a victory for Reece Mould, 30 and of England, over six rounds at lightweight with Mexico’s Benito Sanchez Garcia, 25. Mould was awarded a score of 60-54.
