Mexican welterweight sensation, Saul Alvarez (29-0, 22KOs) is close to a deal to fight in the United States on December 5. His manager Rafael Mendoza is negotiating with Golden Boy Promotions to bring Alvarez to the U.S. before the end of the year. At 19-years-old, Alvarez is going to close out the year with 30 pro fights. The young fighter has made a lot of noise in Mexico by calling out Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. over the last few months.
Mendoza says a bout with WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto will be their target in 2010. They more interested in the WBC title and Berto may end up losing that title if he agrees to a fight with WBA champion Shane Mosley on January 30. If that is the case, then Luis Collazo and Selcuk Aydin, the two highest ranked contenders, would get the opportunity to fight for the vacant belt and then Alvarez would target the winner.
"I still think next year we will be ready a title bout. Our priority has been, and remains to be, the WBC title. I do not know if Berto will still be the champion by the time [we go for the title] but if he is - we would go up against him," Mendoza told Boxeo Noticias.
