The venue for the next defense of Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (36-0, 26KOs) is nearly finalized. The mandatory fight with British boxer Ryan Rhodes (45-4, 31KOs) will likely take place at Arena VFG on June 18 in Guadalaja, Mexico, said manager Jose 'Chepo' Reynoso.
"Before traveling to California, where Saul will be training for a fight for the first time outside Mexico, we will announce the details of the event. It appears that next Wednesday we will be announcing the official venue. We all know the official challenger Ryan Rhodes, is also the fact that the fight will be in Guadalajara, and negotiations with the Arena VFG are very advanced, with only a few minor details missing," said Reynoso to Robert Alarcon.
Chepo confirmed that Canelo has already begun light training and the more intense stage is right around the corner to take place in the mountainous area of Big Bear, California.
"He started boxing lightly, because in Big Bear he will do the harder training. We received about 4 sparring partners from Golden Boy Promotions. They will prepare us for the characteristics of the opponent. It will be an intense preparation filled with physical labor, hard work, analyzing videos of the opponent and we'll prepare the strategy for the Canelo to come out with the win," he said.
Reynoso said that Víctor 'Vikingo' Terrazas will also see action on the card.
