Abel Sanchez, trainer of IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs), has no doubt that his boxer will be too much for Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs).

The fight is signed, sealed and delivered - and scheduled to take place on September 16th as part of Mexican Independence Day weekend.

Canelo's father-son training team of Eddy and Chepo Reynoso are also very confident. They not only believe their fighter can win, they also feel very strongly that Canelo can knock Golovkin out.

Sanchez certainly had his doubts about the fight ever taking place, but he feels the heavy pressure from the boxing public finally prevailed in making the fight a reality.

"This fight is something that had to happen. If it wasn't going to happen in September, then it was going to be next year. It's nice that they negotiated and made the fight, but the pressure [from the public] is what forced them," said Sanchez to ESPN Deportes.

Sanchez smiled at the statements from Canelo's handlers. He does not believe Canelo will be capable of hurting Golovkin in the fight - but he hopes the Mexican boxer will actually attempt to do so.

The veteran trainer explained that Canelo was never able to hurt a smaller Miguel Cotto during their twelve round contest in 2015 - which Canelo won by decision. And Canelo was never able to seriously hurt Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. this past Saturday night. Chavez Jr. ate a lot of Canelo's hard punches for twelve rounds, but he never appeared to be in danger of going down or being stopped.

"If he could not hurt Chavez and Cotto, he will not be able to hurt Gennady Golovkin, who has 400 fights [as a pro and amateur] and he's never been hurt [in any of those fights]. It's good that they believe they can stop him, because that means [Canelo] will have the balls to stand and fight him," Sanchez said.
